Two spots opened in tonight’s 6pm strength class. Reply YES to take one. Reply STOP to opt out.
What you would actually send
A spot just opened in the 6pm class tonight. Reply YES and it is yours.
We have not seen you in a few weeks. Your next session is on us if you want to restart.
Saturday spin is moving to 9am from this week. Same room, same instructor.
Examples of what gyms & fitness studios send. One credit per 160-character segment; STOP and HELP are handled automatically on every message.
A fitness business loses money in two specific places: the class that runs at half capacity, and the member who stops coming in week three and cancels in month four. Both are timing problems, and both are solvable with a message that arrives while the decision is still open.
Filling the class today
A spot that opens at 4pm for a 6pm class is worth nothing unless someone hears about it. Texting the waitlist, or the whole active-member group, converts it in minutes. Email will not do this. A push notification only reaches the members who kept the app.
The win-back window is short
Somebody who has not attended in three weeks is usually still telling themselves they will go back. Somebody who has not attended in three months has mentally cancelled already and is waiting for the renewal date. A single, non-judgemental text in that first window is the cheapest retention you will ever buy.
Keep it plain. “We have not seen you in a few weeks, and your next session is on us if you want to restart” outperforms anything with an exclamation mark in it.
No-shows and reminders
Reminders the day before, with a one-character reply to confirm or cancel, free the spot early enough for someone else to take it. Replies come to a shared inbox, so whoever is on the desk can see them.
Keeping the list clean
Members opt in, STOP works automatically, and people who leave stop receiving messages. A gym texting ex-members is the fastest way to earn a complaint, and under the rules carriers enforce, complaints are what get a number shut down.
Credits stay while your account is active*, so a studio that goes quiet over summer does not pay for the silence.
