Web opt-in widget

The opt-in widget is a form you embed on your own website so visitors can subscribe to your texts, with the consent recorded automatically at the moment they submit it.

You copy a snippet into your site, choose which group new subscribers land in, and it works. There is no separate landing page to maintain and nothing to design.

The form is easy. What matters is what it captures: that this number, on this date, submitted this form, which said what they were signing up for. That record is the difference between a list you can defend and a list you cannot.

If a complaint is ever raised by a recipient, a carrier or a regulator, the question is always the same. Show that this person agreed. A spreadsheet of numbers somebody typed up from a clipboard cannot answer that. A timestamped submission can.

Where to put it

The footer works, but it converts poorly. The forms that fill up are the ones next to a reason: at the end of a booking flow, under an out-of-stock item, beside the events listing, on the thank-you page after a purchase.

Say what people get and roughly how often. “Occasional texts about closures and events” sets an expectation you can meet. “Sign up for updates” does not, and the people who join on that basis are the ones who opt out first.

The alternatives

If your audience is standing in front of you rather than on your website, a keyword is usually the better instrument. If you already hold numbers with documented consent, use CSV import.
